Excretion in Reptiles

چکیده
Scincus oficinalis Laur and Chalcides ocellatus Forskal were chosen as representatives of oviparous and viviparous lizards, respectively. Both lizards excrete their urinary constituents in the form of dry, hard concretions. The material employed in the present work was collected, during the summer, from twenty healthy lizards of each species. The procedure followed in the present investigation is the same as that outlined in Paper II of this series (2).

متن کاملNitrogenous Excretion in Crocodiles
Animals in general are known to fall into three main groups, ammonoteles, ureoteles or uricoteles according to whether ammonia, urea or uric acid is the main nitrogenous excretory metabolite in the urine. Among reptiles, Lacertilia and Ophidia are known to be uricoteles, chelonian tortoises were found to be ureo-uricoteles (Khalil & Haggag, 1955). Crocodilia—represented by alligators, crocodile...

Among the various physiological-biochemical changes associated with the invasion of land from an aquatic environment is that dealing with the nature of the nitrogen excretion product of protein and amino acid catabolism. In general terms (l-4), the excretion of ammonia (ammonotelism), urea (ureotelism), or uric acid (uricotelism) is related to the availability of water to an organism. Ammonia c...
